Come
experience "The Last Great Race" the best way
possible - from the
air!
Imagine
standing in the remote Alaska wilderness along the
Iditarod Trail as you watch the dogs and mushers on
their 1,049 mile journey to Nome. The barking of
the dogs rumbles in your ears as they call out
their challenge to Mother Nature; and as each
grueling mile is covered, a tribute to Alaska's
past is issued. The Iditarod Trail had its
beginnings as a mail and supply route from the
coastal towns of Seward to the interior mining
camps at Flat and Ruby, and beyond, to the west
coast communities of Unalaklett, White Mountain,
and Nome. Mail and supplies went in; gold came out.
All via sled dogs - heroes were made and legends
were born. The Iditarod Sled Dog Race is a
commemoration of those yesterdays, a not-so distant
past that we Alaskans honor and are proud
of.
